WANT

Want! Want want want!!!
Puppy photos by Jenn Norwood

Why?

This is why:

It's a tiny little Briggs!

CRAZY!!

Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme!!!

Alas, no puppy for me. The timing is truly terrible, as we are fixin' to move some time in the next 6 months and a 4th dog makes that fairly prohibitive to most potential landlords (like 3 doesn't!). I love my building and I LOVE my deck, but I need more interior space. And a real bedroom would be nice. But Vancouver peeps - tell us about your dog-friendly buildings in the Lower Mainland and help us with our rental search, or help another Vancouver blog reader with their dog-friendly accommodation search!

I'll just go back to want want want want wanting!

That puppy is adorable even if you can't have him

I have managed to talk us into places with upwards of 4 dogs. I stress how well cared for they are, that they go offleash everyday. They are not destructive blah, blah, blah. Plus I have one of those faces that people just inherently trust. Failing that Lakewood Terrace Housing Coop, across the street from Trout lake will let you in with dogs...

China Creek Co-Op let us have Reuben and Alley with no problem. There were a couple of others with two dogs as well. It was one of the easier co-ops to get into at the time.

Gosh, readimg the comments here makes me wish I was Canadian. I never had an easy time finding housing when I was a one dog, three cat renter. And I offered double deposit. It forced me into buying.

"It forced me into buying."

Buying is not an option in Vancouver, unless you are a kajillionaire. Housing prices are so inflated, and I don't have the kind of income that would allow me to make mortgage payments on a decent condo anywhere near the city. I don't like to commute, and I don't like to live in the boonies as a general rule. So it's very tough!

I have always been fortunate to find dog-friendly places, but we are in the middle of an alleged housing crisis in Vancouver - entire apartment blocks in my neighborhood are getting evicted so the landlords can do minor "upgrades" and then re-rent the suites for almost double. My chances of finding another dog friendly place are small - finding one to take 4 border collies is slim to none.

But I had forgotten about co-ops, and should keep them in mind. Thanks!

You might want to check out these links:
http://www.chf.bc.ca/index.asp - coops
This is a list of coops in BC - most are pet friendly though some limit you to two.

http://www.myhomevancouver.com/search.aspx This is a great site because you can filter for pets and for location (or several locations) simultaneously!

http://www.mybcrental.com/properties.htm - You can't filter for pets on here but lots of rentals, updated regularly.

http://www.myidealhome.com/
-lots, updated regularly, but no way to search for pet friendly

Even if a place doesn't state that pets are welcome, it is often worth checking out. It's usually a good idea to not mention the dogs until after they have met you - many landlords are more concerned about who they are renting to than how many dogs they have. They may not say that pets are welcome, but once they meet you in person and decide you'd be a great tenant, they are okay with it.

He's so small, who would notice??? And beg forgiveness when he does get noticed but by then you'd be moved in and settled!

As a owner of one of the Brady Bunch, I must confess that I originally wanted to adopt Mrs. Brady aka Mona, aka Willow because she looked remarkably like our girl Fergus who had passed away a few months before I saw the Bradys. But I started to feel a little funny about getting a dog so similar - like maybe it wouldn't be fair to Fergus' memory or something. So I went for the next best thing - Son of Mona: Mike Brady aka Seamus. You'll find the perfect pup eventually. The resemblance is amazing though!

Wow, the resemblance is uncanny! If your heart really, truly wants the puppy-who-could-be-Briggs, you'll find a way to make it work. If not, the universe will send you your next dog when the time is right. Not all of them come in crates from Quesnel ;)

If my daughter did not live at home I would offer you shared accommodation with 2 more Border Collies. They think they own the place - the house has literally gone to the dogs - and have to check land registry to make sure they haven't put their names on the deed. When you go on photo shoots you would have someone to look after your family. No ulterior motive here, just that I would get to hang out with Tweed.

The pup is adorable. I want for you.
