James' Log (or: Ignoring Rossiebug the Grammar Nazi)

Apparently.

That's fine. James can have the log.

Tweed and Piper have the whole beach.

Does Ryan look worried to you?

Maybe because The Pale Man is coming?
(If you get this reference, you win ... Tweed)

Wootie's not scared of the Pale Man

"Shut up!" "YOU shut up!" "I hate you!" "You're dead meat, asshole!" Etc.

For real, Dusty's pretty eyes are just fine, and still in his head.

As are Daz's eyes:

Ryan ...

Wants to be Lars.

Tweed wants to be dry

Piper wants to be misunderstood (she's so emo)

WTF?

I put a counter on this site yesterday. In 24 hours, 3WAAW has been viewed over 250 times. How come ya'll don't take a moment to say hi and introduce yourselves?

Woo loves his fans!

I love to see pics of the gang, and spring must be coming if you're down at the beach. I don't comment anywhere near often enough but I visit your blog everyday to read and enjoy the updates.

Make that 250 plus one... since I "watch" (avidly, I might add) via an RSS feed (are those counted in your viewing stats?).

I'll stop in and say "hi". Hi! Love 3WAAW (and a Donut)!

Am I the only one who was taught that it James has a log, it is James's log? I learned that you only drop the s after the apostrophe is the preceding word is plural. James Jones's log or the Joneses' log. Maybe only in Wisconsin?

I think it is funny that there has been all this talk of logs lately since I told you to name Dusty "The Log Lady." You could've called him LL for short.

Hahaha! I hesitate to be pushy about wanting MORE MORE MORE photos of the dogs! It makes me feel like I am being kind of wierd because I stop in every day for updates.

Hi - my name is Finn and I live in Denver, CO. I like long walks on the beach, boxed wine, quiet nights at home with that special someone....

Since my buddy Ray stopped in to say hi, I figured I'd do the same.

Read your blog all the time. Love it.

Yay, a new post :-)
I check almost every day. Hi, my name is Laura and I'm addicted to 3W&AW...

That was Lars *and* Tweed? Dang, can you do a side by side again some day? I thought Tweed has a narrower stripe between his eyes, but maybe not. But he is redder (purpler?), right? Oh, phooey, I can't tell them apart!

One last thing: I luuurve Ryan and am always happy happy happy when he makes an appearance here :-)

Ok, I'll introduce myself. I'm Amy, and I have 2 bc's, Rockstar and Kipp. I sometimes post on the boards, and LOVE all your pictures and witty humor! It's pretty fantastic and I strive to one day take atleast one picture that it as nice as yours always are! I'm an addict to your blog, it's inspiring!

I visit your site every day and worry about posting too much but since you asked ...

Dusty has completely stolen my heart and I wonder that he hasn't been adopted yet. Maybe his foster mom is enjoying him a bit too much or is trying to find a home that guarantees he and Woo will get to visit and play. They are wonderful together. And sweet Ryan - he is such a lovely boy.

The Pale Man:
1. Fog
2. Creature of the Sea that holds Neptune's key.
3. Cookie Uncle in shorts.
Did I get it right? Is Tweed mine?

Tweed vs Lars. Tweed has a brown left front leg.

Love your blog.

Re: Who is The Pale Man: Cokie Uncle In Shorts

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!! While it is true that Cookie Uncle is the world's worst example of an Australian (he doesn't tan, and he's a featherweight when it comes to drinkathons) he was not The Pale Man in question.

The Pale Man is the scary no-eyes dude from Pan's Labyrinth.

But Tweed is yours anyway! Come collect him whenever you like.

If I said hi each time I clicked your link, I'd be embarrassed by the number of times my name appeared in your comments :)

Just know I'm watching you... well not YOU exactly, but the woofs and Mr Woo, that is.

I swung by to check myself out flying through the air at my boyfriend Wootie. Some people think I am a princess, but really I am a superstar. Which is why I had to come back and look at myself a number of times. And while I was at it, I had a gander at the other dogs...They sure photograph well.

Another 3WAAW fan (stalker?)

As for the grammar, I was taught that you don't add an "s" if the word ends in s so for James and his log, it would be James' and not James's. Not nearly as big a peeve as its and it's!

Ok, I'll come out of lurkdom to say "hello". I'm another that checks your blog every day - then I go to the boards to see if there are any other pictures there! I admire your dogs from afar and am in awe of your photography...

What Raising River said.

I worry that Wootie's tummy may soon overtake the fame of his tail...

And is that the same Ryan from the calendar? Wow.

For 3dogslater: William Strunk (The Elements of Style) is unequivocal on the matter -

"Form the possessive singular of nouns with 's.

"Follow this rule whatever the final consonant. Thus write,

Charles's friend
Burns's poems
the witch's malice

"This is the usage of the United States Government Printing Office and of the Oxford University Press."

Alas, I will finally comment after months of watching...I am a big fan of the Three Woofs and a Woo. Having been raised with a border collie (call it the intense nagging younger sister I never had) I enjoy their quirks from afar. As much as I adore the intelligence of border collies I figured as a first time dog owner that I was not equipped in time, space, mental combat, etc. to take on the challenge of a bc and still have furniture and a sane dog. I have a nice yellow Carolina Dog mutt named Larson that is a wonderful mix of smarts and chill.

Thanks for letting us bc fans live vicariously through your adventures. Keep the wonderful writing and pictures coming.

Love love love your photos and comments =]

Dogs are incredibly beautiful

I have 1 rescued Border Collie called Holly. Had her for just over a year now and although she's a darling in the house and when playing in the fields, she's a nervous wreck around men and large crowds. She was beaten and stuff by her previous owner. Wish i could see her run about the beach contently, but she'd be rather be as far away as possible. So pictures of your lovelys will have to do =]

I only recently discovered your blog, but I had periodically visited That'll Do BC Rescue. I love your photos and your writing. Funny and insightful. I was thrilled with your Sheltie shot as my current number one dog is a nearly 10-year-old small 3/4 sheltie (1/4 American Eskimo dog) tri-colour. But I am at month six of a ten-month foster of my sister's sweet neurotic nearly 11-year-old border collie. I don't know whether I'll be thrilled or crushed when she comes to take him back to Ontario in June. OMG, maybe she won't! He certainly loves West Coast life (Saanich with the odd weekend in Vancouver).

ok, i admit it... i am not a huge border collie fan, they just don't 'do it' for me...so there, sue me. but RD transcended all of that breed stuff, i couldn't resist him! and you are his person of choice, so i found my way to your blog. originally to look at RD pictures, but it turns out i can also make myself jealous of offleash dogs having fun playing with toys which works for my masochistic side! perfect!

The Border Collies said...

but RD transcended all of that breed stuff, i couldn't resist him!

RD transcended all sorts of regular stuff. He was a king among dogs. I'll never really get over his death, and I absolutely will never regret the life I shared with him. Me and Briggs slept on a cliff face on Galiano Island and we climbed a 10 foot fence to swim in a river illegally and we rode in the back of pick up trucks and we camped all over the place. He scared off a creepy dude who was following my dogwalker once and he used to protect a chihuahua I babysat by putting her between his front legs and not letting anyone near her.

He was a fucking fantastic dog. He was my best friend.

Anonymous said...

i hope someday an RD kindred spirit will pick me to be his person... there is no question he was 830% yours, but thanks for sharing a tiny bit of him with the world, it makes me happy to hear the stories and see the pictures...and hell, i never met him.

i am sorry his body couldn't be as immortal as his soul.

thanks again.

Ok, I confess I've been reading your blog since discovering it on PNW Border Collie Rescue. I was keeping an eye on a dog that adopted me and my crew. We all loved him very much and had a hard time giving him up to foster care, but I'm sure you found a good home for him. His name was Bear and he didn't last long at his foster home. Someone saw the same loving face and temperament we found and snatched him up. He was such a good boy and was very tolerant of our newest adopted puppy, who thought she had to lay on top of him when ever he settled down.

Anyway, since one of my pack is a BC, I'm loving the pics... and the commentary! Also, thanks for helping us find a home for Bear.
